Our first day of work is coming to a close. It was very, very hot but we drank plenty of fluids and seem to be doing well. I KNOW we will all sleep very well tonight.
Sunday afternoon we visited an elderly woman's home which is yet to be touched. It was very sobering for all of us. Several of us were struck by seeing a certificate from LSU laying on top of the debris in the front room. The water line was above the doors and sat there for four weeks before it was finally drained. Many of her clothes we still hanging in the closet. A photo album sat on a counter in what had been the kitchen.
Jesse and Heather are standing in front of the back shed where you can see a series of water lines. The highest is well over their heads. A new line was made each time the water level dropped from being pumped out.
In the evening we met with the Berean youth group and they shared their stories with us. It is all so overwhelming that sometimes you just have to be silent.
Everywhere we have gone people have stopped to thank us for coming. They all are so willing to tell their stories.
I expect the kids may take awhile to process all of this. Stories will come out little by little once we get home but they may just be a little quiet about it for awhile. They are learning so much.
81 year old Charlie told our group today "This is Life 101 for you guys. Don't forget this."
I will try to post some pictures from today later tonight if I can connect. The wireless network is sporadic.
Thanks so much for all the encouraging words! Keep praying.

Hi everyone from soggy, cold Maine:
We've been thinking of you and praying for you all day today - hope you all are doing well. We are so proud of you as you work for the Lord!! Get some rest tonight!!
I Cor. 15:58 "Therefore my dear brothers stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."
We love you all -
Bev, Bre, Brit and Bryan
