Annie made a pot of shrimp and ham and she and Joe climbed a ladder to the roof of their carport when they started seeing water rising but had seen that before and weren't overly concerned. Annie told us it really wasn't even raining hard.
But the water started rising faster. Annie didn't know the levy had broken and that storm surge waters were filling the neighborhoods.
When the water rose to a couple feet she left Joe on the roof and hurried down the ladder to throw photos into a drawer and put them in the attic. When she climbed down from the attic the water was at her waist. When she got outide it was up to her chest.
At the two-story covent across the street nuns were yelling to her to come to them. She told them she had to go back for Joe.
She told us one of the nuns instantly dove into the waters, habit and allm and swam to Joe who had now come down and was trying to swim to them. The nun grabbed hold of him and they swam to safety together.
It was yet another horrifying story for us to hear but then we heard her say something truly amazing, "Later that afternoon when the clouds cleared and the winds calmed, I stood looking out of my window in the convent and saw a beautiful sky. God allows disaster but then shows me His beauty."
Wow. Annie's perspective is so amazing. She kept calling it an "adventure" and spoke with confidence that she and Joe will come through it stronger and be able to become "givers" again.
By sharing her story and attitude she had given us more than she will ever know.

That is an amazing story! It is so interesting to hear the range of people's perspective about the storm and all its damage. Some people are so angry, some hurt, some hopeful, some defeated, and some saw God's hand right away. We see this all the time in our daily lives...how differently people choose to look at things. Thankfully, we (all you guys) know that "in all things God works for the good of those who love him, and who have been called according to his purpose". Romans 8:28.
I know you guys love the Lord, and you are working for Him, and you were called to New Orleans for a purpose!
God Bless!
wow!! What an awesome story. Annie seems like a really neat person. We are praying for you and are specifically praying that you will be able to take the heat and find ways to keep cool. Can't wait to hear more stories of how God has used you.
